Most shading problems that appear on site trace back to a measurement taken too quickly. The good news is that there are only a handful of things to get right, and they are the same for almost every product.
Decide the mount type first
Inside mount sits within the reveal and gives the cleanest line, but it needs depth: around 50 mm for a standard roll and 76 mm for a reverse roll where the fabric passes in front of the tube. Outside mount avoids the depth problem and covers more wall, which reads larger and reduces edge light leak.
Measure width in three places
Reveals are rarely square. Measure the width at the top, the middle and the bottom, and give us the narrowest figure for an inside mount and the widest for an outside mount. The same applies to height.
Watch for obstructions
Window handles, alarm contacts, trickle vents and radiator valves are the usual causes of a shade that will not sit flat. Note anything protruding into the reveal on the order.
Check the power route early
If the shade is hardwired, decide where the supply comes from before the order is placed. If there is no route, choose battery or solar power instead, which removes the requirement entirely.
Frequently asked questions
Around 50 mm for a standard roll and 76 mm for a reverse roll. Below that, outside mount or a ceiling mount is the practical option.
Yes. Every shade is made to measure, so a millimetre either way changes the fit. We manufacture to the figures on the confirmed order, so it is worth measuring twice.
