Compatibility Guide
Which motor works with which control system, which hub supports which protocol, and how to integrate shading with a third party building or AV control platform.
Which control works with which motor
Compatibility depends on two things: the radio protocol of the motor, and the interface your control system expects. The table below shows what pairs with what.
| Motor | Protocol | Hub required | Works with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi motor | Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz | No | Direct app control; Alexa and Google via the platform |
| Zigbee motor | Zigbee 3.0 | Yes | SmartBridge hub; Alexa, Google, Apple Home, SmartThings, Control4 |
| Radio motor | 433 / 868 MHz | Yes | SmartBridge hub; remote and wall switch |
| Matter motor | Matter over Wi-Fi | Yes | Any Matter controller; cross ecosystem scenes |
| Dry contact | Wired | Interface | AV control systems, BMS, relays |
| RS-485 | Wired | Interface | Building management systems, large facade control |
Smart home platforms
Matter
Cross ecosystem standard. Requires the SmartBridge hub.
Amazon Alexa
Voice control through the platform or the hub.
Google Home
Voice and routine control through the platform or the hub.
Apple Home
Supported via the hub and Matter.
SmartThings
Zigbee devices join directly through the hub.
Control4
Integrated through dry contact or RS-485 interfaces.
Integrating with a third party control system
Most commercial AV and building management systems drive shading through a wired interface rather than a wireless one. Dry contact provides a simple open or close signal per shade or group; RS-485 provides two way control with position feedback, which is normally what a BMS needs.
Send us the control specification for your project and we will confirm which interface is required, together with the wiring diagram and the commissioning sequence.
What to send us
- The control platform and model, for example Crestron, Control4, KNX or a named BMS
- Whether position feedback is required, or simple open and close
- The number of shades and how they should be grouped
- The window schedule with sizes, so the motor torque can be confirmed
- Whether the windows have a power supply or need battery and solar
